CC2 - iThumb

What is CC? CC is stands for Competent Communication. Yes! I had done my 2nd Toastmaster speech 2 weeks ago and the title is iThumb.

If you're following my blog, you might know about iThumb. iThumb is my assignment of last sem and I've blogged about it before [click here]

In the beginning, I wanted to use slides for my presentation since I had made the slides for my assignment. But the president, Lay Chin advice me try not to use slides.

So here is my speech and I present my slides at here lah =)

Attention Getter

Nowadays, iPhone, iPad and iPod are very famous in the market. But I guess you all never heard about iThumb right?

Good evening fellow Toastmasters. Today I’m going to tell you what is iThumb.

Last semester, one of my major courses is called “Creativity, Innovative and Entrepreneurship”. We must create a brand new product which is not available in the market.

I was thinking every night before I sleep, what should be my own product. I want it to be very special. One night, an idea suddenly pops up in my mind while I was having insomnia. My product is called ‘iTHUMB’! Steve Job is never heard about this.

Slides 1,2 and 3

iThumb is a biometric thumbprint payment machine. It’s a new way for debit and credit card holders to make payments by using their thumbprint instead of cards. The “i” is referring to technology and users themselves. The “thumb” refers to our thumb as the tool to make payment.

Slide 4

Slide 4

How do I get this idea? It’s actually through my experience. Sometimes I have no cash in my purse and even though I have debit card but I can’t find ATM around me. So, I think if we can use our thumbprint to make payment that is really convenient.

In addition, bringing too many cards is very unsafe now. We might be the target of robber. The robber can use our debit or credit cards to shopping and withdraw money. So, I think thumbprint is really much better than cards.

Slide 5

Slide 5

Now let me tell you why iThumb is very unique compare with the cards payment machine.

Firstly, iThumb is slimmer and lighter than the card payment machine. It’s only less than 1cm! It’s just like the smartphone we are using now. Slim and light!

Another feature of iThumb that I recommend is the touch screen panel. iThumb is really different compare with the card payment machine. The touchscreen panel is added on it to let the shopper confirm their payment. After the merchant key in the price, shopper can double check the payment amount and confirm the payment by touching the “accept”. This function is avoid the merchant charge extra money. In case, the payment amount is incorrect, shopper can touch the “reject”.

Slide 6

Slide 6

iThumb has benefits for three particulars which are shopper, merchant and banker.

First of all, shoppers do not need to bring the cash, debit or credit cards while shopping. They can complete the payment by using their thumbprint only. Shoppers also can double check their payment amount on the touchable screen panel and confirm the transaction by touching the screen. Besides that, it’s very safe because consumers do not need to worry their cards will be stolen or lost.

Secondly, merchants can complete the transaction faster. It’s because they no need to swipe card anymore. iThumb also helps merchant to cut down the cost of each transaction compared to the card transaction fees. Besides, Biometric identification can provide extremely accurate and secured access to information. Others cannot use one’s identity since thumbprint cannot be duplicate like debit and credit cards. So, merchant no need to worry can’t receive the money.

Lastly, for the banker also can save the cost of the paper. Bankers no need to provide any statement to the shopper after using iThumb. Bankers will SMS the proof of the payments to shopper.  It is really environmental friendly.

Slide 7

Slide 7

My target customers are the current debit and credit card holders. My company will encourage the users use iThumb, because they can make payment with their thumbprint only. To encourage iThumb users to spend, my company will team up with merchants and bankers to offer special discounts. For example, iThumb users can get more discount compare with the cards holder.

Besides that, bankers are also my target customer. My company will encourage bankers to change their card payment machine to iThumb. So that, they can save a lot of cost and attract more merchants to change their machine.

By launching iThumb, My company can earn money from these two particulars. Membership fees will be collect from iThumb users and also my company can earn money by selling the iThumb to bankers.

Slide 8

Slide 8

Lastly, we come to how to commercialize iThumb. My company will advertise through the internet such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and blog. In this technology advance world, the internet is the most influence media now. The new products can spread easily and faster through the internet.

In addition, my company also will provide a collecting points promotion such as BonusLink, which means the payment amount of the shopper will turn into points. Each RM1 the iThumb users spent will turn into 2 point. The higher amount of their payment, the higher points they collect. iThumb users can redeem great and special gifts with their points from my company.

I hope iThumb will be my future business to provide benefits for all the consumers. Fellow toastmasters, dare to dream and never say never!

Back to you.

My first Toastmasters speech

Holaaa~ Finally I have time to blog lur =D I've done my very 1st Toastmasters speech during last Friday. Gimme a clap please! Hehe!

I was thinking wtf I want to talk about for my 1st speech. One day, when I was bathing and an idea was suddenly pop up in my mind! It's one of the old post that I blogged before. But I rearranged and edited it.

This is my speech and the title is "S For Everything" =)

Attention Getter

“A, B, C , D, E ,F G…….”  (singing)

I think everybody has their favourite alphabet. What’s your favourite letter? My most favorite alphabet is not the ‘A’ but it’s ‘S’!

Good evening fellow toastmasters! Today I am going to tell you why ‘S’ is so important in my life.

Body 1

The very first S is stand for San. Not The Sun! It’s me myself. ‘S-A-N’ SAN! I believe the person who loves you the most is yourself. Don’t you agree? So the person who loves me the most is of course none other than me. This is also the permanent excuse for me to sho………………..pping.

My hobby is related with S too! S stands for shopping and swimming. Let’s go for the “S” if you have the same hobbies with me.

No matter how many hobbies I have, I still love to go back to have a rest in a place called Sungai Siput.

Body 2

Sungai Siput is made up of two S’s. I was born in Ipoh, but living in Sungai Siput. It’s a small town in Perak. Yes! I’m a typical kampung girl. There is a mountain in my hometown, called Lion Mount, because the shape is looks like a lion. I love it because I’m a Leo.

The next S is stand for Samsung. It’s my parent’s business. Their 25 years old shop is call Sungai Siput Enterprise. I wish their business is full of vitality. There are two members with S in my family too. My brother, Simon and my sister, Sin (Wei Sin). This Sungai Siput leads me to have another S in my life!

Body 3

Can you guys guess what is the next “S”? It’s related with you all too!

Yup! It’s stand for Sabah! Sabah is like my second hometown now. I love this place so much. Island and mountain are all around in Sabah. Of course, I don’t regret to choose UMS as my university and I wish I can always come back to Sabah after graduate.

Body 4

Another two important people with ‘S’ plays a very important role in my life.

“S” is stand for Sam. Sam is my boyfriend of 5 years! Actually I used to call him Sum. Sum is his Chinese name. It’s also S! I know our love will become stronger since distance makes the heart grow fonder. Who knows he will be my future husband soon.

The next important person with ‘S’ is my best friend, Shain. I know her since we were in the Form 1. Time flies! It’s about 10 years friendship. I wish our friendship can last forever! I’ll see her soon because she’s coming to Sabah during this coming mid-term break.

Oh! How I wish these two important people could be here to show my joy!

Conclusion

The “Letter” S is so important in my life.  San represents my identity. I live in two places with ‘S’ called Sungai Siput and Sabah. Also, the four important people in my life are Simon, SinSam and Shain.

So next time when you are singing  A,B,C, stop when you come to the "S" and think of me, San or Wei San!

Back to you.

(END)

I need to speak 4-6 mins. Thanks God! I done my speech in 5.05 mins =) My evaluator, Lay Chin said my speech overall is good and she was enjoy my speech. BUT I need to do these 3 things.

1. Look left and right.
I was too nervous and my eyes only focus on the centre -.-

2. Move far a bit.
I was moving from left to right and back to left while I was changing my "S". But Lay Chin said is not enough far, have to move far a bit next time.

3. Don't apologize.
I was mentioned a word wrongly and I said sorry. BUT now I only know we can't apologize while giving speech because the audiences don't know our contents. If the speaker say sorry, then they will know there are mistake during the speech.

Hopefully I can improve during my second speech =)

Show you guys the photos taken on that day =) Luckily I still can smile while giving speech, but honestly my legs were shaking. The one of the purpose I join Toastmaster is to train myself not to shaking during giving speech.

Thank you fellow toastmasters enjoy my speech =)

Thanks for your coming Yuen Shan! Let's join us and improve together! =)

I know Toastmaster from my ex roomate, Jocelyn. Thank you babe for helping me to edit my speech =)

Before the meeting end, I got my reward from the vice president of University Toastmasters (UTC) and also the invocator of the day, Kyle. The cute girl between us, Lay Chin is the president of UTC and also my evaluator for my 1st speech.

After I take my reward, Lay Chin said: now I only see your shirt is also S! Haha! Lay Chin, I forgot to take picture with you =(

This is the reward. It's actually a small piece of paper. BUT it's meaningful for me! I want to get more and more in the future! Add oil CWS!!!!!

Thank you the people who are always supporting me and also the people who are look down on me!

" If someone hurts you, don't mind it ever because it is a Law of Nature that the tree that bears the sweetest fruits gets the maximum number of stones."

Hello Toastmasters!

I uploaded this picture in Instagram yesterday and my caption said "decided". My friends asked me "studying oversea? where is the place?", "Really? Update your current life going pls", "when and where you get it?", "what's this?", "you gonna continue Master?"

I'm so happy of all the cares. I always hope to study oversea when I was in the secondary school. Unfortunately my dad not allow me. But before I came back to KK this time, my dad asked me to continue Master oversea lol. He know my best friend studying in Canada now. But I prefer UK la daddy =p

I still wish to study oversea in someday. Anyway, I must finish my Degree 1st then I just can decide what's my decision, either continue Master/working/starting my own business or getting marry haha! Because my bf not allow me to study oversea because he said will affect our relationship >.<

I think study oversea isn't easy for me. If I really wanna to do so, I've to improve my communication skill 1st. That's why I wanna join Toastmaster. It's also one of my resolution for this year

So you all know Toastmasters isn't an University now lor hor. It's a nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. Members improve these skills by attending the meeting.

I attended UMS Toastmaster meeting for the 1st time last Friday. Of course, I was the guest only. I've learned a lot from the meeting. So I decided to join them after one year.

Actually I knew Toastmaster from my ex roomate, Jocelyn last year. She always came back very late. I asked her where you go o? So late. And She answered me Toastmaster lor. I was thinking wtf is that. But nvm lah, as long as she come back safely then okay lor.

Then she joined for a Toastmaster competition. Tze Ling (currently roomate) was there as tally counter. So I also attended the competition and support them. After that, I started to know more about Toastmasters. I really admire those participants who can give their speech confidently. Also, I'm proud of Jocelyn. She won runner up =)

I still remember she played piano on the stage before the competition start. I always regret why I didn't continue my efforts on piano when I was in primary school. I think no one can guess why I stopped learning piano. Stop reading my blog and try to guess now.

[30 seconds]

The reason is I feel very sleepy when the piano teacher was teaching me the musical notation lolsss. Then I told my mum I wanna stop the lesson. After that Idk why my eld sis also stopped it. If my mum force me to learn piano last time, may be now I'm a very good pianist like Jocelyn haha!

Left: yours truly, Tze Ling and Jocelyn.

OMG! My face was so slim last year T_____T Jocelyn is very slim now and Tze Ling didn't change. Hehe!
